Project: Sunnybank Plaza Shopping Centre Redevelopment
Client: Built QLD
Architect: The Buchan Group
Value: $40 million
The bustling suburb of Sunnybank and its surroundings are predicted to see major growth in popularity with the $40 million redevelopment of the infamous Market Square.
Intended to bring new retailers to the area, it is expected the development of the four storey commercial space will see Market Square more popular than ever. With a fresh facelift will come more business opportunities for the suburb, a forecast growth in property demand and extensive lifestyle facilities.
A key feature will be the upgraded existing dining area adjacent to Canna Street. This will transform the precinct into a feature laneway dining precinct and the adjacent tenancies will have upgraded covered alfresco and a subtropical outdoor space design.
Other proposed upgrades include enhancing the entrances, upgrading the existing shopping centre facade, and improving the streetscape amenity. A building form will integrate with the existing facade as part of the Golden Lane proposed expansion.
The development is planned to take place in two stages in a span of a year, with construction proposed to start in early 2020 and completion anticipated for early 2021.
Sitting in the heart of “Brisbane’s Little Asia,” Sunnybank Plaza has evolved over time within the dynamics of a strong multicultural trade area. Owned by YFG Shopping Centres, Sunnybank Plaza was established in 1975 and now has over 130 specialty stores.
