The GEMCO Fly in Fly Out village on Groote Eylandt in the Gulf of Carpentaria, Northern Territory will replace the existing temporary housing facility providing 584 new accommodation units and central facilities on a 5.5 hectare block. As well as providing private sleeping areas for mining staff the Village will house a central kitchen, gymnasium, dining room and an administration office.
MDA provided mechanical, electrical and hydraulic design services to assist in the village development which is situated in the bushland reserve adjoining the existing golf course. MDA also took advantage of the opportunity to enhance the sustainability of the project whilst maintaining the relationship with the unique surrounding bushland views and water glimpses.
