Built to accommodate both voluntary and involuntary patients, the new $38 million Mental Health Unit at Lismore Base Hospital opened its doors on 28th May 2008.
The Mental Health Unit will provide 40 acute in-patient beds and a specialist unit for children and adolescents hosting 8 patients. Hospital staff and the local government are hoping this facility will encourage the community to see mental health similarly to the way they view cancer or diabetes, as a serious health condition that needs to be addressed and treated in facilities like this one.
MDA Consulting Engineers were contracted by Reed Constructions Australia to provide the mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and fire design engineering services for the project.
